Charlotte’s “singles tax”

Charlotte renters pay a roommate-less “singles tax” of nearly $8000, according to an analysis from Zillow.

The best way to avoid this extra financial burden is to live with at least one significant other and/or roommate, cutting it in half or better.

Uptown has the highest “singles tax” of $892 per month, while northwest Charlotte features the lowest.

While that sounds like a lot of savings for Charlotte roommates, it’s even more for Honolulu, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington, Boston, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, and New York City . . . with NYC topping out at a singles tax of $19,500.
